It is now official, Bacary Sagna has signed a contract with Benevento until June with an option to add another year, reports footballitalia.
The France international was a free agent since his deal with Manchester City expired in June 2017.
He agreed terms with the club currently at the bottom of the Serie A table and put pen to paper today.
A statement from the Campania outfit confirmed the contract runs to June 30 2018, with an option to extend to June 30 2019.
That option will be valid if Le Streghe (The Witches) survive in Serie A.
Sagna will be at the disposal of Coach Roberto De Zerbi from next week, but should be in the stands for tomorrow’s Serie A local derby against leaders Napoli.
The right-back has 65 senior caps for France under his belt and will turn 35 later this month.
His previous clubs include Auxerre, Arsenal and Manchester City.
According to Sky Sport Italia, Sagna had offers from Schalke 04, Olympiacos, Sporting Braga, Besiktas and Malaga.
“My career for the past decade has been at the very top level, what Benevento offers me is the opportunity to represent the underdog and to play for a club whose story is such a beautiful one,” Sagna told FootballFancast.com.
“In an era when football has become more of a business at many clubs than an actual sport, Benevento represents the heart and soul of what a football club should be about. Passion, heart, hope, joy, love and a philosophy that is aligned to that of my own way of thinking in life.”
